From an early age I have loved to draw, and would often be found sketching animals and birds from Observer books that my Dad bought for me.
My love for animals and birds
was often the subject of my earlier drawings, but I stopped drawing for a while after I left school. It was my passion for Formula One
that really got me back into drawing in my early twenties.
I started off with a grey tone pencil drawing of Nigel Mansell in the No.5 Williams, to try to learn about tonal values, and was very pleased with the results. I then moved on to other F1 cars using colour pencil, and went from strength to strength. I began to do drawings of other subjects, and did a couple of pet portrait commissions
in pencil, which really helped with my confidence.
Next up was pastels, both pastel pencils and pastel sticks. I did some Formula One cars
and animals
in pastel, and I loved the effect I could get with them.
I then decided to try acrylic paints. I absolutely loved them! I was in heaven as I tried out different techniques and ways of using acrylic. This was now my favourite medium! I then thought I would experiment and use a sponge
instead of a brush to paint with. I did some landscapes using sponge, and they turned out quite effective, and were really fun
to paint!
I am self-taught
in every medium, but never give up striving for a better result, and the practising never stops as there is always room to improve.
I moved up to Cumbria in 2014
with my beautiful Border Collie
called Jaz, a gorgeous cat
called Tiggy, and two of her kittens, Millie & Indie. Since then, Poppy has joined me, and she had 3 kitties, one of which I kept, called Daisy. With plenty of pets and stunning scenery all around me, I have lots of paintings to be going on with, and, as well as Pet Portraits, I also happily accept commissions for a variety of other subjects.
So far I absolutely love it
up here, and I am located right on the edge of the Lake District, so I certainly have plenty around me to give me inspiration!
